Description

SUMMARY:  Safely assembles custom commercial grade cabinetry and millwork pieces per the specifications and drawings, using standard production methods and assembly techniques.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fabricate and assemble custom commercial grade products per AWI specifications (custom and premium grade).
  • Read and understand blueprints and sketches for information relating to the type of material required, design specifications and drawing details.
  • Prepare layout, using rule, square, patterns and other measuring instruments.
  • Work with advanced hand tools and use advanced assembly methods to complete production requirements.
  • Operate woodworking equipment safely, following standard equipment operating procedures and established woodworking procedures.
  • Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials to the prescribed dimensions using saws, chisels, planes and other cabinetmaking tools.
  • Assemble cut and shaped materials and fastens them together using nails, dowels, screws or glue and following the drawing details.
  • Verify trueness of material and finished products.
  • Assemble and inspect each product to ensure it meets company’s quality standard.
  • Unload, handle and carry materials and finished products as required.
  • Install cabinetwork and millwork per shop drawing specifications at times.
  • Complete Daily Safety Audits as requested by Mill Shop managers.
  • Maintain a clean work environment including practicing good housekeeping methods, participation in scheduled cleaning activities and when required for specific tasks, like prep work and finishing surfaces.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or an equivalent 10 – 15 years of carpentry/cabinetmaking experience is required.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at heights as required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally more.
  • Must be able to use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.
  • Good math skills and the ability to read/interpret shop drawing and blueprints.
  • Must be able to follow specific directions.
  • Must be able stand or walk for long periods.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, percentages, and fractions.
  • Must be able to read and understand measuring tools and levels.
  • Must be able to compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.
